Taking Advantage of Wedding Gift Registry Tips
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

PR Web reports that a new wedding gift registry at Northshore Cookery - a cooking school, caterer, and gourmet cookware retailer in Highland Park - now includes chefs that help plan the registry, 15% rebates to registered couples, and all the same online access and shipping services that big box retailers offer.

Now that certainly is a treat! Perhaps you have something else in mind for your wedding gift registry, but in any case, you can make it easier for your guests to purchase gifts for you by following a few tips:

1. Make a list (and check it twice) of the things that you and your fiancé want and/or need from a wedding gift registry. You may choose a practical route, and request items needed to start a happy home (kitchen appliances, linens, dinnerware, etc.) or you may request that your guests contribute toward the purchase of your home or even charity for that matter.

2. The list of items that you and your fiancée create can be located at a single source so that your guests can collaborate and purchase something as a group. Or, the items can be found at a few different sources so that your guests can bring you something unique and different from all the others. Both sources should offer a wide selection in gifts and costs to accommodate the preferences and budgets of your guests.

3. After creating your list and selecting sources to locate the items on your list, set up a wedding gift registry at the stores that are willing to work with you. You can set up a wedding gift registry any time before the wedding date. When you set up your registry, you'll need to specify the details about each item that you would like to receive: brand, color, size, and more.

4. If possible, set up a wedding gift registry online so that guests can shop from home. And keep your wedding gift registry open for guests who elect to give gifts after the wedding. One year is a reasonable time limit.

5. During the wedding, have someone record 'who sends what' so that you can thank them later and show specific appreciation of the specific gifts that they've sent. For example, your thank you cards will read, "Dear ______, We would like to thank you for your gracious gift of [gift item]," etc.
